Armenia hasn’t made EU membership bid, says FM

Armenia has not applied for EU membership and no such talks have taken place, FM Ararat Mirzoyan has said.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Mirzoyan was asked by a Russian reporter how Armenia intends to combine its current membership to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and EU integration, taking into account the recently adopted EU bill.
Mirzoyan said that the EU bill doesn’t constitute a membership bid.
“Armenia hasn’t submitted a membership bid to the EU, no negotiations in that direction are taking place, therefore the question that could arise in the event of such developments is inappropriate and I can’t make judgements,” Mirzoyan said.
Shortly after the Armenian parliament adopted the EU bill earlier this year, Russia warned that the country cannot simultaneously be a member of the EEU and the EU.
